Message From Mrs Symonds
I watched something really exciting last night!
NASA (remember who they are?) are sending American astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken on a mission to the International Space Station. The spacecraft ‘Crew Dragon’ was due to launch last night, but sadly the decision was taken to ‘scrub’ the launch because of unsuitable weather (‘scrub’ was the word that NASA use to mean that they had to wait until another day!). This means that I have had time to tell you that it is happening, which is good!
The launch is now scheduled for Saturday May 30th at 3.22pm Eastern Time (I think that this is about 8.22pm our time – which I know is a little bit late for some of you). You can follow the preparations of the astronauts and the spacecraft if you tune in to NASA’s ‘You Tube’ channel , but remember to ask your grown up. The address is as follows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMsvr55cTZ0
You can learn more about the mission if you go to this web address: https://www.nasa.gov/launchamerica/
Just remember, the launch may have to be scrubbed again if the weather conditions are not good enough. Don’t be disappointed, these things take time!
Have fun and let me know if you manage to tune in.
Hope you are all well.
Mrs Symonds

Phased Re-opening
Thank you for your responses regarding the possible re-opening of the school and the implications for your child. The teams have been working hard this week to carry out the Risk Assessments required by both the Government and Local Authority in order to inform our decision about when and how to re open safely in a phased and well considered way.
Once this has been completed, we will be in a position to share much more detailed information with you about a return to school and what this will look like at such an unprecedented time for you and your child. Before reopening a ‘Parent Pack’ will be shared with you which I hope will answer many of your questions and concerns before your child returns.
As I said in my communications last week the earliest we will be able to open more widely is Monday 8th June, but this is not yet definite. It will be confirmed as soon as possible, as will the year groups that we are able to accommodate - which may not be all those mentioned by the Government.
Before we can confirm the date of our phased reopening, we have to undertake essential staff training, make changes to the school site, have the right resources, and check that what we are doing is safe and in line with the government guidance we are still waiting for.
Thank you for your patience at this very busy time for us in school. Please continue to look on our website for further updates over the half term holiday. Please note school is completely closed for all pupils between 25th and 29th May. We hope you all have a lovely half term holiday despite the strange circumstances.
PLEASE FIND IMPORTANT UPDATE LETTERS REGARDING THE PHASED REOPENING OF OUR SCHOOL ON THE CORONAVIRUS PAGE.

Please continue to look after your mental health during the school closure. Ideas are on the Parents-Coronavirus page.

If you would like to share some of your home learning with us please send it to admin@broadhembury.devon.sch.uk. The teachers will choose some pieces to include in a special scrapbook for this unusual time.

During the school closure please share an Act of Worship every Friday morning. Although we cannot physically gather together and worship at school like we normally do, we can come together as a school community, to worship and pray each week by using our weekly assembly at home. You may use it at a time suitable for you or at 11.45am every Friday so that we can all ‘sit together’ and use the assemblies in our own homes as a joint community. This will provide a time to remember each other, our school community and all that is going on around us. The Act of Worship is in the Parents - Coronavirus tab of the website.

Coronavirus - SCHOOL IS NOW CLOSED - unless you have received an invitation for childcare. Ideas for activities to do at home are in the Parents - Coronavirus tab on this website.

If your situation changes over the coming weeks and your role becomes one from the keyworkers list please email admin@branscombe.devon.sch.uk.
THE LIST OF CONFIRMED KEYWORKERS IS ON THIS LINK https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/closure-of-educational-settings-information-for-parents-and-carers/closure-of-educational-settings-information-for-parents-and-carers
